Repair or scrap?
Get a repair estimate and compare it with what the car would be worth once fixed. If the repair costs more, or close to it, scrapping usually makes more sense. Older cars often cross that line after one bad accident.
A damaged car still has scrap value: its metal, and the parts that weren’t damaged.
If you’ve claimed insurance
Talk to your insurer before you scrap. If the claim is settled as a total loss, the damaged car may become the insurer’s, or its value may be taken off your payout. Scrap it once the claim is settled and you know the car is yours.
If there’s a police case
After a serious accident, the police may hold the car, or a case may be open against it. The scrapping facility checks for pending cases before it accepts a car, so the car may need to be released first. Tell us on the call and we’ll explain what applies to you.
Why not sell it as it is?
Wrecked cars sold for cash are often rebuilt and put back on the road, sometimes still registered in the old owner’s name. Scrapping at a registered facility cancels the registration, so the car can’t come back to you.
