A car that won’t start is still worth something
Most of a scrap car’s value is its weight in steel and other metals, plus the parts that can be reused. So a car that hasn’t started in years is usually worth close to a running car of the same size.
What lowers the price is what’s missing. If the battery, wheels, engine or other big parts have been taken out, tell us on the call and we’ll price the car as it is.
Tell us how it’s parked
So we bring the right truck and equipment, we’ll ask:
- Do the wheels turn, and are the tyres flat?
- Does the steering move, and do you have the keys?
- Is it in a basement, a narrow lane or behind other cars?
None of these stops the pickup. Towing is free either way.
Why not just leave it parked?
A car that sits for years is still registered in your name. Left on a public road, it can be towed away by the authorities. And if it’s stolen or stripped, the registration still points to you.
Scrapping it cancels the registration on VAHAN and gets you a Certificate of Deposit, which lowers the road tax on your next car.
Before the truck comes
- Take out your belongings. Check the boot and the glovebox.
- Remove the FASTag and ask your bank to close it.
- Keep the RC and the owner’s ID ready.
